The Commercial Finance Association
Entry Level Career Opportunities
The duration and structure of entry level opportunities available in our industry will vary by institution, but generally they will incorporate a foundation in several key skills within the following positions.

The Analyst position involves a variety of analytical roles. On the collateral side, you analyze and process information from the client, to determine the amount of funds to make available to the company. In this role you will develop a framework to analyze the company's accounts receivable and inventory information to calculate the real time borrowing availability as well as surface issues in the data trends that may present changes in the risk profile of the client and its asset base. On the credit side, you analyze the client's balance sheet, income statement and cash flows and learn to develop pro-forma models to assess the credit risk on a go forward basis. These functions are performed in the office and you will be usually interacting with the client's controller and his/her staff.

The Field Examiner position involves an initial review of a prospective client's books and records to provide an initial determination of the underlying valuation of the assets and develop a recommendation on the amount of funds to make available to the company. In this role, you will learn to assess the company's information systems and reporting capabilities to include an in-depth understanding of the Accounts Receivables, Inventory and Accounts Payables modules. On a recurring basis the examination is performed to validate the integrity of the financial information over a period of time and surface issues that have changed the risk profile of the company. This function is largely performed at the company's site and involves extensive interaction with various levels of the financial staff within the company.

The Underwriter position involves a comprehensive review and analysis of the company, its industry, the risks associated with the business its customers and suppliers, a financial analysis of the balance sheet, income statement and cash flows, and an overall recommendation of the financing structure. You will be part of a team responsible for underwriting the transaction and will be interacting with all levels of the company's management both in the office and at the company site. You will gain exposure to both private and public companies as well as the other constituencies that support them such as investment bankers, consultants etc. Salaries are competitive with other financial disciplines.
