The duration and structure
of entry level opportunities available in our
industry will vary by institution, but generally
they will incorporate a foundation in several
key skills within the following positions.
The Analyst position involves a variety
of analytical roles. On the collateral side, you analyze and process information
from the client, to determine the amount of funds to make available to
the company. In this role you will develop a framework to analyze the company's
accounts receivable and inventory information to calculate the real time
borrowing availability as well as surface issues in the data trends that
may present changes in the risk profile of the client and its asset base.
On the credit side, you analyze the client's balance sheet, income statement
and cash flows and learn to develop pro-forma models to assess the credit
risk on a go forward basis. These functions are performed in the office
and you will be usually interacting with the client's controller and his/her
staff.
The Field Examiner position involves
an initial review of a prospective client's books and records to provide
an initial determination of the underlying valuation of the assets and
develop a recommendation on the amount of funds to make available to the
company. In this role, you will learn to assess the company's information
systems and reporting capabilities to include an in-depth understanding
of the Accounts Receivables, Inventory and Accounts Payables modules. On
a recurring basis the examination is performed to validate the integrity
of the financial information over a period of time and surface issues that
have changed the risk profile of the company. This function is largely
performed at the company's site and involves extensive interaction with
various levels of the financial staff within the company.
The Underwriter position involves a comprehensive
review and analysis of the company, its industry, the risks associated
with the business its customers and suppliers, a financial analysis of
the balance sheet, income statement and cash flows, and an overall recommendation
of the financing structure. You will be part of a team responsible for
underwriting the transaction and will be interacting with all levels of
the company's management both in the office and at the company site. You
will gain exposure to both private and public companies as well as the
other constituencies that support them such as investment bankers, consultants
etc. Salaries are competitive with other financial disciplines.
